Peace and Goodwill by Carole Chapman

Peace and Goodwill at Christmas
Silly season is here again and each year it comes in quicker;
The list of gifts to buy varies from books and knickers to liquor;
Chocolates are favourite things to buy for girls in my fam’ly,
They sit on hips long after passing through lips, displayed here clearly.
Boys love their toys, never grow up, manufacturers please take note,
This is when upgrades are essential for any old car, bike or boat.
Please don’t even consider it when they say it came out last year
They either already have it or never wanted it, I fear.
Remember the innocent days when we were still growing up
When girls got dolls and boys got cars, maybe sometimes a special cup?
Something that smelt nice, one sweet treat, a new book to colour or read,
A cricket set, a fishing rod, make your own necklace with beads?
Today we are spoilt for choice when deciding what gift to buy,
Forgive me if sometimes my gift doesn’t light up, spin fast or fly;
Christmas is still about peace and good will, emphasis on the peace,
If given a book it obviously means to read silently please.
Merry Christmas
